Tickets combined to Machu Picchu

The Ticket basic to enter the Inca Citadel of Machu Picchu is the Ticket Machu Picchu Only. Ticket Machu Picchu + Huayna Picchu

In addition to the Inca Citadel, this ticket allows entry to Huayna Picchu, the mountain that rises above the Inca Citadel in the classic photos of the archaeological site. It is known as ‘Young Mountain’, probably in opposition to the highest peak, which originated the name of the archaeological complex discovered by Hiram Bingham in 1911: the mountain Machu Picchu or ‘Old Mountain’. Ticket Machu Picchu + Mountain

In addition to the Inca Citadel, this ticket allows entry to Machu Picchu Mountain, the so-called ‘Old Mountain’ located at the top of the place and whose name took the Inca site. It is located at 3,082 m.s.n.m. almost 600 meters higher than the archaeological complex. Like the Waynapicchu, the roads that lead to this summit are steep. However, these are broader and safer, so that income is allowed to people of any age. From the top, you can see all the beauty that surrounds the Wonder of the World: the Vilcanota River, the Huayna Picchu, Machu Picchu, the Putucusi, etc.

The Ticket Machu Picchu + Mountain allows entry to the ‘Old Mountain’ as well as the Inca Citadel. Access is only allowed to 800 visitors per day. Entry times are only in the mornings. The Inca site opens its doors to the public from 06:00 a.m. However, access to the Machu Picchu Mountain is in two shifts:

  • 1st Shift: 07:00 a.m. at 08.00 a.m. (400 people a day) – You can stay in the Inca site until 02:00 p.m.
  • 2nd. Shift: 09:00 a.m. at 10:00 a.m. (400 people a day) – You can stay in the Inca precinct until 03:00 p.m.

Ticket Machu Picchu + Museum

In addition to the Inca Citadel, this ticket allows entry to the Machu Picchu Site Museum ‘Manuel Chávez Ballón’. This site keeps a collection of objects found in the first excavations made in the Inca Citadel in 1912, after the arrival of Hiram Bingham to the site. It also has materials found in other places such as ceramics, fabrics, silver objects and more. Recently, didactic exhibitions were added explaining the way of life of the Incas in the place more than 600 years ago.

The Ticket Machu Picchu + Museum allows entry to the Museum Site as well as the Inca Citadel. The show is not in the Wonder of the World but near the town of Aguas Calientes, less than 30 minutes by bus from the Inca site. Availability depends on the Ticket Machu Picchu Only. The entrance time to the showroom is from 09:00 a.m. at 04:30 p.m. The visitor can make his entrance before or after his visit to Machu Picchu, which is governed at the following times:

  • Morning shift: 6:00 a.m. at 12:00 a.m.
  • Afternoon shift: 12:00 a.m. at 05:30 p.m.

Is there a ticket to enter only to the mountains?

The only way to enter the Waynapicchu or the Machu Picchu Mountain is to acquire the combined tickets: Machu Picchu + Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu + Mountain. There is no ticket to only enter the mountains.

Is there a ticket for admission only to the museum?

The Ticket Machu Picchu + Museum are not the only way to appreciate the display of Inca objects found in the archaeological site. The other option is to visit directly the Museum of Site ‘Manuel Chávez Ballón’. This is located near the town of Aguas Calientes. The entrance includes a visit to the Botanical Garden, a site that exposes and protects the variety of flora in the area, in which the different types of orchids stand out.

Tips

  • The only ticket that is not combined is the Ticket Machu Picchu Only. This entrance allows the tour of the Inca Citadel as well as the short walk to the Sun Gate (Intipunku), an alternative adventure to the Waynapicchu.
  • Book the combined tickets in advance. Especially the Ticket Machu Picchu + Huayna Picchu, which is the one with the highest demand among tourists.
  • The ascent to the Huayna Picchu Mountain is only allowed for people over 12 years old.
  • The ascent to Machu Picchu mountain is allowed to people of all ages.
